Re : Sentinel USB Driver

Hi,

I think if you are getting drivers listed in the Control Panel and the key is also seen in Device Manager then that should be enough.

Please do not depend completely on the results of SAM tool.

Also, kindly confirm if you are facing any issues while accessing the license etc.

Thanks,
Heena

Hi Cinohee,

Hope you are keeping well.

Please explain your query again. As per my understanding, you want to delete SL license from target machine and want to change hardware (Fingerprint) so you license become clone.

Kindly correct if I am wrong.

Hi Bradley,

SAM is checking the registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Rainbow Technologies\Sentinel System Driver

To tell if the "USB drivers" are installed.

If you don’t have ownership of the registry key (ie: Access Denied) the “USB Driver Installation" is not detected in SAM. (As SAM is not being able to read

the above registry key).

This said, the SAM (Sentinel Advance Medic) is designed to communicate with the Sentinel System Driver (Parallel and USB drivers)  and detect following dongles:

Sentinel Hardware Key / Sentinel Dual Hardware Key  (USB)

Sentinel UltraPro Key (USB & Parallel)

Sentinel SuperPro Key (USB & Parallel)

But looking at your “screenshots”, you do have the following USB devices, attached and the Sentinel LDK Runtime Drivers 7.55 installed on the machine:

Sentinel HASP Key

Sentinel HL Key

These USB devices & related Drivers (Sentinel LDK Runtime Drivers 7.55) are not supported by the SAM (Sentinel Advance Medic).

If you want to check the content of the attached “Sentinel HASP Key” / “Sentinel HL Key”

Open you internet browser (ie: Internet explorer) and type the URL http://localhost:1247

If
the Service “Sentinel LDK License Manager” is started, it will display the interface “Admin Control Center” (ACC).

Then click on “Sentinel Keys” to get the connected “Sentinel HASP Key” / “Sentinel HL Key” displayed.

Olivier

How to map software versions to licenses? How to enable older Software to run with a newer license?

Hello,

I'm rather new to the Sentinel licensing idea, but I have read a lot of documentation and also made some experiments.

I couldn't find an answer to a very basic question about version managing:
What's the usual or best way to specify for a license, which software version is allowed to run with it.
I mean at some point, when the licensed software of a certain version starts, it has to decide if the license is matching or not.

I understand that this can be done by defining a new feature for every version.
Let's say v1.0 starts with login to feature id 1001.
Then v2.0 starts with login to feature id 1002.
Then v3.0 starts with login to feature id 1003.

That is feasible, but is it a good solution?
Let's say, a user may have a license for v1.0, then later updates the software to v2.0 (--> no license), then waits a year and buys an update and receives a license for the current version v3.0 but still has v2.0 installed. Thus, the software v2.0 asks for feature 1002, but only 1003 is existing in the license (v3.0).
In this situation, either the user is forced to update the software to v3.0 (which they may want to avoid ;-)) or the licensor has to add feature 1002 (so all features of lower versions have to be included in every license).
Both solutions could be unfavorable.

Is there a better way around this?

Thanks,
Armin

There is two type of problem
1: when user install key server when network is enabled
its OK by changing mac address user key server warn hardware changed
2- when user install without mac enabled
by changing mac key server do not warn anything and VM can be cloned

Is there any way That I change information in windows registry two tel key server hardware is changed?

or is there anyway to I uninstall all key from user computer without formatting hdd?

Hi Armin,

Thanks for your query.

Please note that in case there are multiple versions of your software to be bound. The licensing depends on the approach of using different or same license terms for all features per our requirement.

A. Using same feature id(1001) for all your software versions:

1. License terms of the feature requires to be Same for all application versions (1.0,2.0,3.0): All the software versions would be able to successfully login with feature id 1001 available in the license installed on the specific machine.

2. License terms of the feature for all application versions needs to be Different: Create a base product for license to be used for version 1.0 ; you may update the license terms later per your requirement for different software version by creating modification product using Sentinel EMS. The feature id would remain same and all software version would access it.

B. Using different feature ids for different versions:

v1.0 bind with feature id 1001.
v2.0 bind with feature id 1002.
v3.0 bind with feature id 1003.

In order to keep better tracking, it is suggested to use different feature ids (Only if you have different license terms) for different software versions.

_____________
Let's say, a user may have a license for v1.0, then later updates the software to v2.0 (--> no license), then waits a year and buys an update and receives a license for the current version v3.0 but still has v2.0 installed. Thus, the software v2.0 asks for feature 1002, but only 1003 is existing in the license (v3.0).
In this situation, either the user is forced to update the software to v3.0 (which they may want to avoid ;-)) or the licensor has to add feature 1002 (so all features of lower versions have to be included in every license).
_____________

It appears that there is some confusion with your use case shared above. Please suggest if my understanding is correct as per steps mentioned below.

- Installed v1.0: feature id 1001 installed and application is able to login.

- Updated to v2.0: (no license); Software wont work in that case as the feature id (1002) is not available on the specific machine.

- Burnt and installed license with feature id 1003 for updated software v3.0:  In that case, software v3.0 (using 1003) would work. It would not access feature id 1001.

Please note that its Not required that all features of lower versions should be available on a specific machine. Only the feature id with which the software is bounded should be available.

Kindly drop us an email on technical.support@gemalto.com so that we may recommend the suitable solution as per your requirement and the use case.

Hope it helps !

Thank You,

Cannot deinstall Sentinel HASP vendor Suite 5.10.1.17165 (Windows 7)

While trying to install Sentinel LDK it tried to deinstall the Sentinel HASP vendor suite which had been installed sometime in the past. Got an error message that setupclnt.msi could not be found.

It was search in C:\Users\kuku\AppData\Local\Temp\Rar$EX27.629\SENTIN~1.1\Windows\subsetup\

which looks like it had been installed once directly from a ZIP file and had been unpacked using Winrar.
And maybe due to some cleaning up of Local\Temp it got removed. Odd.

How can I get out of this situation? It seems that deinstallaion of this package is necessary before Sentinel LDK can be installed.

The cause of this problem appears to be that the signature for the latest SuperPro driver expired on April 7, 2017. Our customer has Device Guard enabled in their Windows 10 group policy and Device Guard will not let the driver run with the expired signature. Gemalto told our customer that they hope to have a new signed driver by the end of August.

Hello Dragos,

Thanks for raising the concern.

It seems that there might be some conflict with the running hardlock service while upgrading the runtime drivers.

Please be advised to first uninstall completely and then try to install the latest drivers using below steps.

1- please use the below link to download the command line run-time drivers.

https://sentinelcustomer.gemalto.com/DownloadNotice.aspx?dID=8589947873

2- Save and extract the driver in a folder.
3- Open CMD prompt (in admin mode ) and navigate the driver location using CMD.
4- Run below commands sequentially

haspdinst -purge  (to uninstall the previous drivers)

haspdinst -i (to install the new one)

Hopefully this should help to resolve the problem.

However, if the problem still persists then please write us at technical.support@gemalto.com for detailed investigation.

Please suggest if my understanding is correct as per steps mentioned below.

Yes, your understanding is correct, but regarding my question it seems not to be complete.
Of course, v3.0 would not access feature id 1001, that's true.

What I tried to ask is: Let's assume that our license terms state (in fact, they do) that the latest license (v3.0) includes the rights to run an older software version by using that latest license (Feature ID 1003).
The user in my scenario still has v2.0 installed, but let's assume they purchased and activated v3.0. Consequently, when starting the software version v2.0, they should have the rights to use it, because the v3.0 license includes the rights to use v2.0.
You may ask why this is important: In our experience, many users don't like to be forced into an update. They may be used to be working with v2.0 and for some urgent work to be done, they can only be fast with the software they know by heart. An update may slow them down for their project. On the other hand, for our sales team it's best practice to write offers for the current software versions only (we have to avoid selling licenses for older versions, it makes pricing too complicated). That situation leads to the requirement, that older versions should run with latest licenses.

I'm aware that it would be possible to artificially create a downward compatibility like this, if older versions would also access the feature ID's of upcoming versions. Let's say v2.0 would be so smart to access 1002, if this doesn't work, it tries to access 1003, then 1004, then 1005. That would be a way to do it, but it seems more like a workaround or a hack than like professional version management.

I'm also aware, that nowadays, version management like this seems to become "old fashioned", because more and more licensors switch to subscription models. So maybe my question is not really on the modern side of monetarization. ;-)

Thanks for your response.
As you suggested, I will continue via mail, if needed.

Best regards,
Armin

Re : SuperPro driver not loading on Windows 10

Dear Customers,

Our current “Sentinel System Driver 7.5.9” and “Sentinel Protection Installer 7.6.8” do not support Windows 10 Professional with “Device Guard” enabled and Windows 2016 Server with “Device Guard” enabled.

Both “Sentinel System Driver 7.5.9” and “Sentinel Protection Installer 7.6.8” installation do complete successfully even if “Device Guard” is running. But when connecting your Sentinel Legacy key (SuperPro, UltraPro, SHK, and DUAL SHK) or Sentinel HL in SuperPro configuration, the plug & play driver’s “sntlusb64.sys” will fail to load.

In device Manager, you will notice a “warning” icon on the “SafeNet USB SuperPro/UltraPro” or “Sentinel Hardware keys” device.

If you check the properties and Device status, you will see:

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. This driver may be corrupted or missing (code 39)

The problem is not simply due to the SafeNet Inc. certificate dates.

Support of “Device Guard” will require code change in the plug & play USB device driver, WHQL testing, functional test of new drivers.

In order to check if “Device Guard” is running on your customer machine, ask your customer for a ".NFO" file or Run “msinfo32.exe” and scroll down in the “system Summary”.

You will see “Device Guard Virtualization based security” -> Running

For now, you will have to disable “Device Guard” in the Group policy or disable “Virtualisation technology” (Intel VT-x) in the machine bios. (See Disabling Device-CredentialGuard.pdf ) in order for the Sentinel USB drivers to load.

The Gemalto engineering team, will release an updated “Sentinel System Driver” that will support “Device Guard” by end of Q3 2017.

Regards,

Olivier

Uninstall/Deactivate unlocked product (temporary license)

I created a "Bundle Unlocked Products" in EMS and included it in the RTE installer and installed it.
This license is not shown in the Admin panel (localhost:1947), correct ?
Is there a way to delete that license again or at least see it somewhere? Now I just always have a valid license for my software but I don't know where it's coming from (I guess from this installed but now invisibkle unlocked thing).

Yes, it's SL-Usermode.

Hello Urs,

Thanks for the confirmation.

User-mode licenses are kept hidden standalone licenses. These licenses don't appear on admin control panel.

Although, there is no way to delete the licenses installed. However, you could use "product cancellation" to disable the installed license features for access.

Cancellation product doesn't delete the license key from the machine but blocks the feature usage.

The process to define cancellation product is available in "Sentinel Licensing and protection guide", page 128.

Please share if this helps our concern.

Parth
