Hardlock and Virtualization

Hi,

We've been using Aladdin's Hardlock for years.
Nowadays it's becoming more frequent the use of Virtual Machines (VmWare, XenServer, Hyper-V).

We experiment several problems in order to passthrough the dongle to the VM (mainly in XenServer).
Is there any solution, help or guide for this kind of problems?

If not, what other product would you suggest in order to replace the Hardlock technology to protect our software?

Hoe you are doing good.

Thanks for raising the concern. Regarding your query, please be informed that Hardware Keys are not fully supported over VM.

Please refer to the below link for further clarification:

Though, there are a few third party alternatives we can try to use with HL licenses. Gemalto recommends USB dongle server myUTN-80 by SEH Technology for the same.

Also, we always recommend to use the latest range of products we have like Sentinel LDK (for better results).

Therefore, it would be great if you can get in touch with our Sales for better visibility of these products.

Thanks for your response.

Unfortunately, we wont be able to reveal information of the vendor who possesses this vendor id. You may have to get in touch with the provider of application that you are using or used earlier with the HL keys.

Hello Kostas,

Thanks for raising the concern.

It seems like the counts in the sentinel master key required for license generation has been consumed.

However to make sure, kindly share these below details:

1- Type of license being created (whether its SL or HL license).
2- Open Sentinel Admin Control Centre ( http://localhost:1947/_int_/devices.html ), connect the master key and take the snapshot of all the features under "fetaures" tab of master key in "sentinel keys" page.

LISP & ACCESS FILES PROTECTION

Hi. I would like to protect some of the autolisp files (*.lsp) and microsoft access (*.accde). I have Sentinel LDK starter kit. I would like to add files using envelope  but, the file extensions are restricted. Is there any possibility to protect files with extensions *.lsp and *.accde?

Problem when using Sentinel HL Key on virtual machine

Hello,

we would like to use a Nikon Pro software which relies on a Sentinel HL Key, on a virtual machine.

We have a myUTN-80 USB/IP gateway, so we tried to use it for this key, but if the devices is well recognized on the Windows 2016 system, when I try to launch HASP Info or the installation of the software, I got an 

Reading HASP SRM memory failed
"HASP Error 27".

I tried to connect directly the device on an VMWare ESX host, but the problem is the same.

Is any way to use this software key on a VMWare ESX VM ?

Dear Vincent,

Thanks for raising the concern.

However, the issue doesn't seems to be related neither with myUTN-80 USB/IP gateway nor with windows 2016 server OS as both are supported.

From the shared error code, it appears like the issue is within the "license terms" which may not contain the appropriate settings for usage.

The error appearing seems to be related with "terminal services" or "RDP" usage.

Hence, kindly help us confirm whether we are accessing the key over an RDP connection and if yes then do we have "remote connection" option checked ?

Question about Licensing API hasp_get_info function.

My platform: Mac 10.12.4
Trail protection key: Sentinel HL Max(firmware 4.23) 

I create a simple test program to try using hasp_get_info(available products) function.
It has a system run-loop for detecting USB plugin and unplug.
If it detected the correct USB(Sentinel protection key: vendor ID, product ID) that invokes hasp_get_info function to get products.

I test protection key in 2 situations with my simple program
1)first of all, plugin protection key and then run test program -> It works very well(HASP_STATUS_OK) and succeeded get products
2)first of all, run test program and then plugin protection key -> it doesn’t work(HASP_SCOPE_RESULTS_EMPTY)
  I think the problem is operation system detected protection key while something (protection key or ...) are not ready.

I also change the hasp_get_info to the hasp_login, but I got the same error. [HASP_HASP_NOT_FOUND:7]Sentinel protection key not available

I also try "wait for seconds" approach and then run the function. 
But I think It's not a perfect solution. because I don't know when the sentinel HL key(or somethings) is ready.

another question: (I think, It's the same this topic)
when users unplugged the protection key and then operation system detect an usb was unplugged and then I perform hasp_get_info function.
Why this action is succeeded? HASP_STATUS_OK (I use this action do simple test to detect protection key is present or not)
why do I need to perform this action?
because, I need to control my software permissions, like update UI, disable some functions.

I want to complaint this product "Sentinel LDK Licensing API".
previous I use Sentinel HSK API is very nice and easy to use. I just focus on my program functions and secure issues the Sentinel HSK will take.
But Sentinel LDK licensing API is not, I need to take more time to control it.
Sorry! about my complaint and English.

Could you give an advice or sample to resolve the situation2 problem?.

Protected software causing high disk usage in Windows 10!!

Hi there!! Ever since I installed Windows 10, I've been having problems with my protected DJ software where the disk usage spikes when analyzing new files. Has this happened to anyone else? How do I fix it? I currently have Windows 8.1 installed as a dual boot as that works just fine; but I would like to use Windows 10 full time especially when my current DJ laptop with 8.1 dies and I'm stuck using Windows 10. Let's just say it sucks when it does this in the middle of a wedding.

We have no such issues reported by other customers.

Kindly consider the below steps and help us get your results.

1- Use the below link to download the latest run-time drivers and install it over the problematic machine.

Share if this helps to improve the performance.

2- Check the protected application on a different windows 10 machine with similar configuration.

3- confirm the compatibility of this application over windows 10 environment.

Dear Customer,

Thanks for your query.

Per my understanding,scenario 2 is working as per design. It would reflect error 'HASP_SCOPE_RESULTS_EMPTY' on using hasp.getinfo function until the System recognises the connected Sentinel HL key(which may take some seconds) or when HL key is not connected. The Sentinel License manager should detect the Sentinel HL keys as soon as the system recognizes the HL key.

Please note that once the sentinel HL key is recognized by system with HASP/LDK Drivers installed on it, then it should get visible in Admin Control Center(http://localhost:1947/_int_/devices.html) under Sentinel keys page.

Now regarding your another concern, please note that the hasp_get_info function should NOT reflect HASP_STATUS_OK when the specific protection key is unplugged. 
Yes, this function is used to retrieve information about system components, according to customizable search parameters (license status, feature information, get available products or key information etc.), 

Here is the behaviour of  hasp_get_info:

i.) When key is connected: hasp_status_ok
ii.) When key is disconnected: hasp_scope_results_empty (error)
iii.) When key is re-connected: hasp_status_ok 

Note: You may also use Hasp.GetSessionInfo API which retrieves information regarding a session context as per your requirement. After successful login,

i.) When key is connected: Hasp_Status_Ok
ii.) When key is disconnected: HASP_BROKEN SESSION (error)
iii.) When key is re-connected: HASP_BROKEN SESSION (This implies that the previous session had been broken as key was disconnected) Need to login again.


Please mark us an email at technical.support@gemalto.com to analyse the behaviour of hasp_get_info observed at your end. Also mention if the same is being observed by your multiple users.

the "sentinel HASP LDK Mac OS X Run-time GUI Installation" will install driver and sentinel admin control center.
the sentinel admin control center for developer and debug is good. but for our customer is not.
because, 
1)I don't want to exposure protection key's informations, like product name, id, feature name, id.... 
2)I don't want to create a http://localhost:1947 port in our customers computer for waiting someone to attack.
I know, I can set password to protect it. but it's a extra work when I deploy my software to our customers.

Sorry, I should ask that way
could I using Sentinel licensing API communication with protection key without install run-time?

Hi Diuming,

Hope you are keeping well.

I would like to inform you that on Mac, only SL admin mode license is supported and SL admin mode license won't work without ACC.

So we do not have any other way to establish Sentinel licensing API communication with protection key without installing run-time.

Hello Kostas,

Thanks for sharing the screenshot.

However, this doesn't appears to be from "Sentinel Master Key" dongle and instead it appears to be "HASP HL" license dongle.

To clear this confusion, please share the "Sentinel Keys" page screenshot for this key as well.


In-case If the license generation features have expired then the only way forward is to get the master key refilled with counts and you may need to get in touch with sales for the same.

Hello Parth,

I was not aware that such keys had an expiration date. I will be talking with a Gemalto representative, if needed.

I attach the "Sentinel Keys" screenshot. The key is the one before the last (Blue) and it is referred to as "Sentinel HASP Master".

The key itself reads: HASP SRM Master.

I hope this cleas up things a bit?  Thank you very much.
