Hi Gaurav,

Thanks for the information.
The user section was the problem. We use it tests with detachable licenses and we restricted it too much.

Thanks again, the problem is solved.
Regards,

Harreld

Limit application instances to 1 (concurrency) with hardware key

Hi, I'm new to HASP and in the middle of evaluating some samples. I've run into some documentation about how concurrency can be limited with EMS or Cloud services. I wanted to ask if it's possible to do the same (limit concurrent applications to 1) with the HASP hardware key? Using the Envelope, I couldn't find a relevant parameter. If it's possible, any idea how I can go about testing it?

Hi Vijay,

Please share the version of HASP that you are using so that I can guide you accordingly.
I would like to inform that HASP is our legacy product. The latest product series is Sentinel LDK (including EMS).

Please confirm if your organization is already using HASP and that is why you wish to evaluate HASP samples?
Or if you or your organization is evaluating our solutions for the first time. I recommend to check Sentinel LDK instead of HASP in this case.

Regards,
Ashish

Hi Ashish,

Sorry, I was not familiar with the different product lines. I thought HL was related to HASP, but guess not.

My organization is evaluating these solutions for the first time and I have a Sentinel LDK kit in front of me. Inside are 4 USB sticks:
-1 installation disk
-1 Sentinel HL Max key
-1 Sentinel HL Max Micro key
-1 Sentinel HL Time key

I was able to use the Max key with the sample Bounce application successfully. From that point forward, I was trying to find a way to only have 1 instance of the sample application running at a time, but haven't had much luck finding relevant information in the documentation.

Does this post belong in a different forum? Or is it still related to HASP since it's about related to hardware keys?

Thanks.

The same set of keys work with HASP and LDK both. Just that HASP is the previous generation.

Please follow these steps to set concurrency as one-
1. Open EMS and go to Catalog
2. Start to create a new Product and add a Feature
3. In the "License Terms" window, enable the "Concurrency" checkbox and set concurrency number (1 in your case) and type (explained below)
4. Disable the "Network" checkbox
5. Proceed to burn this license in the key

Concurrency:
Concurrency is controlled by two parameters- "Concurrent Instances" and "Count Each"
-> In concurrent instances, we specify the number of instances we wish to allow
-> "Count Each" controls the behavior on what is counted as single instance.

It has three options-
Station : One machine will be counted as 1 instance. So it will allow unlimited number of instances running on single machine but will prevent if accessed from second machine over network. This is applicable if Network option is selected in license settings.

Process :  It counts the number of processes opened by protected application. So actually controls how many instances of application are running, including local or network connected machines.

Login : Counts the number of "Login" API calls made to the licenses by any application. For application protected with envelope, win32/64 applications usually create 1 login per running instance of application. For .Net and Java, there may be more than one login calls made by same application.

Refer to the LDK Documentation from the following link for details-

Same documentation can be found on your machine where LDK is installed-
C:\Program Files (x86)\Gemalto Sentinel\Sentinel LDK\Docs\Manuals & Tutorials\Sentinel EMS\Sentinel EMS Users Guide.pdf

Well, that was my problem. I had Envelope but had not installed EMS thinking it was for the cloud only. I found what you said worked just fine.

Thanks for your help.

I have installed Sentinel runtime installation 7.6 after trying 7.54 several times on my Windows 7 system.  My computer continues to crash each time.  My device manager shows 3 USB controllers:
Sentinel HASP Key
Sentinel HL Key
Sentinel USB Key
Will it help if I get rid of one of them?
Thanks for your help.

Dear Laur,

Thanks for raising the concern.

The three USB controllers mentioned are device drivers for HASP HL key. These are loaded each time the key is connected to the machine. However, please help us by confirming the status of this problem as of now over below points.

1 - Are you able to access ACC (at http://localhost:1947/_int_/index.html ) post-installation of RTE 7.6 ?
2 - Is system crash still being observed after installation ? If yes, please confirm at when does it happen ?
3 - If any anti-virus is installed then please share its details.

Looking forward to your reply.

Parth Kaushik

Hello Laur,

Thanks for writing us back.

We found that there were some reported issues with the LDK RTE 7.6 over certain updates on windows 7. However, those were fixed in the later releases. Hence, please be suggested to try the latest RTE version 7.8 and observe the behavior upon the installation.

Steps to install:

1- Open the command prompt in admin mode and browse the driver file location in it.

2- Run the below commands sequentially

haspdinst -purge

haspdinst -i

Also, please confirm the update of windows installed to check.

Sentinel driver and McAfee Application Control corrupt USB stack. No more keyboard and mouse

We use Application Control (setup-win-8-10-2012-amd64-8.1.0.169.exe) to protect our customer PC's aboard of a ship.
We also have Sentinel drivers installed, because we have protected our own software with a hardware dongle.

We have:
- a Windows 7 Professional fresh install.
- Sentinel drivers (HASP SRM)
- Application Control

Problem:
When Application control is installed and enabled or in update mode AND a Sentinel HASP SRM dongle is connected to a USB port:
- our USB devices or not recognized anymore. (mouse keyboard)
- Device manager is missing USB HUB devices
- When pressing "Scan for hardware changes" the dialog hangs forever.

There seems to be lowlevel conflict between sentinel drivers, McAfee Application Control and USB.  How can we resolve this?

When our HASP SRM dongle is not connected while booting the Windows 7 OS, there is no problem and the mouse and keyboard keep working as expected. All other applications are working correctly.
- TeamViewer
- Cimplicity
- Rockwell RSLinx
- ...

The strange thing is.. Cimplicity and Rockwell also use a Sentinel dongle, which don't give the problem. Only our HASP SRM.

Hi Edgar,

It seems that the runtime you are using is very old (SRM).
Please try with the latest version 7.81 and share the results.

You can get the latest version from the following link-

HASP4 Key not detected running Sentinel Runtime 7.81

$

Hello,

I am having issues with an older HASP4 Parallel port key being used with a software called Biorad Microplate Manager 5.2.

Initially, the computer with the protected software started rebooting due to Windows Updates failures back in March.

I have just got around to reformatting the PC, and I'm experiencing the same issues after the reformat and reinstalling the software.

I narrowed down the issue to a driver called C:\windows\system32\drivers\haspnt.sys (version 4.30.1.1).

If I disable this driver (renaming it and removing the reference from the registry) the computer boots fine and the reboot issues go away.

That's great, but we still require the software which will not work as the application can no longer find the HASP key, as the driver "haspnt.sys" has been disabled.

After reading numerous forums, it seems that many others have experience this issue at around the same time on various versions of Windows.

I have also tried disabling the haspnt.sys, and hardlock.sys, rebooting and installing the latest Sentinel Runtime 7.81(which clams to have resolved a HASP4 issue in the readme), but I'm still having the same issues.

Currently with 7.81 installed, and haspnt.sys and hardlock.sys disabled, I am getting a "HASP Key for Microplate Manager not found (15)" error.

Please let me know if you need any additional info, and if you have any suggestions.

Thank You ,

-Mark

I don't see how you know which version I used. Maybe because I call it HASP SRM. We have been using the installers since parallel port Memohasps, and you guys keep changing names. I still have problems with the gemalto name :-) For it is still a HASP key :-)

But we normally used the GUI installer 7.54 , but latest version gave same problems.
I only see a 7.81 commandline version. I think we tried the 7.80 GUI installer, but without any luck.

We have been testing all day, also with different PCI USB cards, completely disabled the onboard USB chipset.
Using a "VIA Rev. 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller".
We then had slightly better luck with it.

We have a Blackbox server switch connected to the second set of USB ports. The blackbox usb is shown (when connected) as a USB Composite device. Which consists of a hub, mouse and keyboard.

So we have been seeing this problem with :
- Windows 7 Professional
- latest (7.80?) gemalto driver
- a single Sentinel SRM
- a USB composite device (hub/mouse/keyboard)
- McAfee Application Control

When the system is just started, the sentinel dongle can be seen by USBView, but not yet by the webinterface (localhost:1947). Enumerating other USB devices is not possible as can be seen in the screenshot.

When we wait a minute, the webinterface sees the dongle, USBView has enumerated all ports and has detected a problem.

When the our SRM dongle (vendorid:59147) is not connected, and the Cimplicity or Rockwell dongles, there is no problem.

Hi Edgar,

Yes I got the version by the name. HASP SRM was the name used in very old versions.
The keys are still called HASP Configuration keys but the term SRM is no longer used. In later versions it was changed to Sentinel HASP and not new series is Sentinel LDK.

Regarding the issue, it looks like a detailed investigation would be needed which is not be possible here.
